The PDD certificate Program has been Updated and Enhanced.

Beginning in Fall, 2010, we will have a New Name, More Inclusive Enrollment Criteria, and Updated and Expanded Course Options...

Our new name is the Autism Spectrum Intervention Specialist Certificate (ASISC) Program. We are currently accepting students for our Fall 2010 Cohort. Applicants must have a minimum of an undergraduate degree in special education, speech-pathology and audiology, psychology, or another health and human services related field, and work closely with individuals with ASD and their families. ASISC courses can be completed online or in traditional classrooms on the Kent State campus. This is a joint program offering, developed and administered by Special Education and Speech Pathology.

There has been a dramatic increase in the number of children diagnosed with an ASD in American schools, including those with autism, Asperger Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). The ASISC Program at Kent State University is designed to participants with the skills required to: understand the theoretical conceptualizations of ASD; develop evidence-based lifespan intervention programs; collaborate successfully as a member of intervention teams; support individuals with ASD being served within general education contexts; and effectively address the needs of families. The ASISC Program will provide participants with an interdisciplinary curriculum that includes didactic and applied learning experiences under the direction of recognized scholars in ASD.
