This scholarship is available for early or middle childhood education majors who have at least a 3.0 GPA and live in Berea, Brookpark, Middleburg Heights, Strongsville, or Lorain County in Ohio and are a U.S. citizen. This scholarship will pay full tuition for four years for initial bachelor degree students at Kent State University. This scholarship is for both incoming and continuing students.
The application deadline is April 1, 2008.

Alice Sturgill Van Deusen Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship will be awarded in the spring semester and credited to the student’s account in the Bursar’s office for the fall semester.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be pursuing a degree in Early or Middle Childhood Education while maintaining a 3.0 GPA, with demonstrated leadership and community service
- Recipient must be a U.S. citizen, resident of Ohio, and a Graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School
- Student must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the office of Student Financial Aid

BECOME scholarship

Center for international and intercultural education
The Gerald H. Read Center for International and Intercultural Education grants two $500 scholarships each semester (one to a faculty member and one to a graduate student) for research and scholarship presentations abroad. Applicants should submit letter of application and a two-page description of the project, and estimated costs by November 1 or April 1 for reimbursement by the end of the semester.
Please forward the letter to Dr. Linda Robertson, 215 White Hall. The scholarship is given in the payment of airline tickets, costs of registration of conferences, or other receipt generated payment.
charles A. grigas scholarship
Charles A. Grigas was a longtime vocational trade and industrial teacher in the Cleveland Public School System. The purpose of this scholarship is to award worthy students in the vocational trade and industrial education program at Kent State University. This is a need based scholarship for both undergraduate and graduate students. Financial reimbursement is to be used to offset the cost of instruction of college coursework leading to either certification or degree requirements.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a trade and industrial education student at Kent State University who has successfully completed 24 semester hours of vocational coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Submit a completed application form to faculty adviser of Iota Lambda Sigma (Delta Chapter).
- Amount of award(s) to be determined by the Scholarship Committee based upon the number of applicants, merit, service to the profession and amount of money available.
- Awards are renewable but not automatic.
- Members of Iota Lambda Sigma (Delta Chapter) will receive preference.

February 1- May 1 for Summer or Fall Registration. August 1- November 1 for Spring Semester.

Clara H. Lloyd Scholarship in Early Childhood Development and Special Education
This award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress. This scholarship will be awarded annually to either a single student or a number of students based on the recommendations of the committee. Selection of the recipient normally will be made in the spring semester with the award to be effective the following academic year.
Criteria:
- Graduate students working with students in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education
- Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 during the last 60 hours of completed undergraduate courses. However, students with prior relevant experiences and high financial need may be considered

Diane M. Burbick Gifted Education Graduate Scholarship
Diane M. Burbick was totally committed to the concept and importance of gifted and talented educational programs. So that her work may continue, this scholarship is being awarded to help fund the education of future gifted and talented teachers and provide auxiliary funding to local gifted and talented programs.
This scholarship will normally be awarded each spring. The amount of this scholarship is $5,000 per academic year and will be awarded each semester during the tuition payment process.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be a graduate student seeking licensure or certification in Gifted Education
- Preference will be given to the outcome of a personal interview, which will look at the recipient’s motivation, character, ability, and potential

Dorothy M. And Mildred G. Lucke Scholarship For Nutrition and Dietetics
This scholarship was established in 1995 to provide assistance to undergraduate and graduate students in the field of nutrition and dietetics. One award will be made annually to an undergraduate student and two awards to graduate students, depending on the number of qualified students. Awards for undergraduate students will be $1000 and graduate students $2500.
The criteria for undergraduate students are as follows:
- Junior standing
- Completed Chemistry 20481 (Organic Chemistry) or equivalent
- Declared major of nutrition and dietetics
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 Extracurricular activities
- Work experience related to nutrition and dietetics

This scholarship is funded by the Emeriti Faculty of this college. This is a group of distinguished former faculty members who have a long and important history with this college. They wish to continue to demonstrate the value they place on learning, and their steadfast commitment to the college and its students. This gift is to encourage this college's students to continually pursue the highest levels of distinction and public service.
Only two scholarships will be awarded per academic year, one at the graduate level and one at the senior or junior level.The amount of the scholarship may vary from year to year, dependent upon monies generated through College of Education, Health, and Human Services Emeriti donations. Graduate students and junior/seniors across the College's six units are eligible to apply.

Florence Hellman Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to graduate students in health education. Florence Hellman passed away in 1992 at 85-years-old leaving a generous endowment to support students pursuing a degree in health education.

This scholarship is awarded annually to undergraduate students in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education. Â
Herbert E. Eloise C. Hurd Scholarship
This award is intended to encourage undergraduate students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress.
Criteria:
- Junior or senior standing and enrolled full-time during the academic year the award is activated
- Declared major that prepares the recipient to teach in an elementary (1-8) grade
- Minimum 3.5 GPA
- As it is the donor’s intent to encourage and support non-traditional students, first preference will be given to qualified mature applicants at least 30 years old who have entered the University after other life experiences

Marlene and Alan Evans Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship
Marlene and Alan Evans are retired educators living in Kent, Ohio. Marlene Evans graduated from Mount Union College and completed a M.Ed. at Kent State University. She served as a teacher and principal in Oho public schools. Alan Evans graduated from Antioch College and completed a M.A. and Ph.D. in Education at The Ohio State University. He served as a classroom teacher in several public schools, an administrator at OSU, and as an administrator and professor at Kent State University.
Both Dr. and Mrs. Evans believe that full equality and equal opportunity among races is essential for a progressive society. It is the donors’ desire to assist an African American student to enter and complete a teacher education program and become a positive role model for youth.

The Rayner Smith and Elizabeth Meade Smith Scholarship is available to a deserving male or female student enrolled in a teacher education program in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. The award will be made on the basis of scholarship; service and leadership; and financial need. The amount of this scholarship is up to $1500 per academic year. The application deadline is July 1.
Richard and Jo Anne Vacca Fellowship for Teachers of Literacy
This fellowship was established to support practicing teachers enrolled in the master’s degree program in Reading Specialization at Kent State University. This award assists teachers in their goals to earn a master’s degree and improve literacy instruction in Northeast Ohio. The fellowship will be awarded annually for a summer session, three-credit graduate level course. The fellowship is a one-time, non-renewable award.
Criteria:
Recipients will be selected by the faculty affiliated with the Reading and Writing Center at Kent State University based on the following preferred criteria:
- Employed as a full-time teacher in Northeast Ohio
- Admitted to the master’s degree program in Reading specialization in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services at Kent State University
- Currently enrolled or planning to enroll for a minimum of three (3) graduate credit hours for the summer.
The application deadline is March 1st. Notification will be mailed by April 15th.

Rosemary Rita Amos, Ed.D., M.P.H was a faculty member in the Department of Allied Health Sciences (now Health and Safety Education) from 1970 to 1978 at Kent State University. She was the department's first chairperson , holding the position from 1970 to 1974. She was not only a fine teacher, but her generosity to known to a number of students. This scholarship is need based and offered to undergraduate students majoring in the area of Health Education.

The William A. Bricker Memorial Award
The William A. Bricker Memorial Award was established in memory of Professor Bricker, a pioneer in Special Education. The purpose of the award is to recognize a promising senior undergraduate student in Special Education who exemplifies the commitment to scholarship and service on behalf of persons with disabilities to which Professor William A. Bricker dedicated his professional life.
Recipients of this award must be senior level undergraduates in good standing enrolled in the Special Education program.
The scholarship shall be awarded once a year to two participants. The amount of the scholarship varies.
